The 4 Rules That Override Size
Driver's Direct Line of Sight
Any damage — even a pinhole chip — in the driver's direct sightline is grounds for replacement under California Vehicle Code 26710. Repaired damage leaves a slight optical distortion.
Edge Damage (Within 2 Inches)
Cracks within 2 inches of the glass edge compromise the urethane seal and windshield structural strength. In a rollover, an edge-cracked windshield can collapse. Always replace.
Through-Glass Penetration
If the damage goes all the way through both glass layers (you can feel a rough edge from inside the car), the glass cannot be repaired. Resin only bonds to glass, not to air.
ADAS Camera Zone
Cracks near the camera mounting area (top center) affect calibration accuracy for lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Replace to maintain system accuracy.

A bridge device is centered over the damage and creates a vacuum that removes any remaining air from the crack, creating a clean cavity for resin injection.

Optical-grade polyurethane resin (same refractive index as glass) is injected under pressure to completely fill the crack void and displace remaining air.

The resin is cured using a UV lamp for 3–5 minutes. This hardens the resin to near-glass strength and bonds it permanently to both glass layers.
