Nearly every auto glass company advertises a "lifetime warranty" — but most customers do not know what that means until they try to use it. Here is exactly what auto glass warranties cover, what they exclude, and what Auto Renu's warranty specifically covers.
A legitimate auto glass lifetime warranty covers: workmanship defects (leaks, water intrusion, whistling, or air noise caused by improper installation), glass defects (bubbles, delamination, or visual distortion in the glass itself caused by manufacturing), and seal failure (butyl tape or adhesive failure causing the glass to shift or leak). These are problems caused by the installation process or the glass product — not by new external damage.
Auto glass warranties universally exclude: new chips or cracks from road debris, rocks, or impacts after installation, stress cracks from improper vehicle body repair, vandalism or break-in damage, cracks caused by extreme temperature differential (pouring boiling water on frozen glass), and damage from improper washing (pressure washing the seal area). Your comprehensive insurance covers these scenarios — the warranty does not.
The most common warranty claim is a wind noise or water leak after installation. This is a legitimate workmanship issue — it means the adhesive was not applied correctly or the glass was not seated properly. Any reputable company should return and re-seal at no charge, immediately. Test: drive highway speeds and listen for whistle at A-pillar. Run a garden hose over the windshield and check interior for moisture. Both are quick tests you can do within 48 hours of installation.
If your vehicle has ADAS features and the shop does not calibrate after installation, any resulting ADAS malfunction is a workmanship defect — covered under warranty. However, proving the shop skipped calibration requires documentation. Always ask for a calibration completion record (VIN, date, calibration type, technician). Auto Renu provides this documentation on every ADAS-equipped vehicle.
Using aftermarket glass does not void a warranty, but it does change what is covered. OEM glass defects (bubbles, delamination, distortion) are extremely rare. Aftermarket glass from budget suppliers has higher defect rates. Auto Renu uses OEM-spec glass from Pilkington, AGC, and Saint-Gobain — the same manufacturers that supply car makers. These manufacturers offer their own glass defect warranties in addition to Auto Renu's workmanship warranty.
Auto Renu provides a lifetime workmanship warranty on all installations: leak-free guarantee (if water enters through the seal within the lifetime of your ownership of the vehicle, we return and re-seal at no charge), wind noise guarantee (if highway wind noise develops from the windshield after installation, we diagnose and fix at no charge), and ADAS calibration guarantee (if your ADAS system malfunctions due to our installation, we recalibrate at no charge).
